Phonetics & Language Course Descriptions:
Learn English Through International Phonetics I - (In English, Mandarin & Cantonese)
Objective of this course is to help you improve your English pronunciation by learning the
International Phonetics used in dictionaries. This method increases your vocabulary
quickly and provides the technique for remembering more words and phrases, and improving
spelling effectively.
Learn English Through International Phonetics II - (In Mandarin & Cantonese)
Objective of this course continues to help you improve your English pronunciation by using Phonetics
to learn words with three or more syllables and practical daily sentences as well as
increasing the speed and effectiveness in learning English.
Learn Mandarin Through Hanyu Pinyin - (A accelerated course in Cantonese & Mandarin)
To learn Mandarin well, the most important step is to learn Hanyu Pinyin first. Mandarin
is rated as one of the second language Provincial Exams. Being able to speak Mandarin is
especially crucial to people who are involved in overseas trade businesses and
traveling.
This course helps learners grasp Pinyin's four tones and pronunciation. Detail
explanations about usage and comprehension methods increase your vocabulary. Adding
immediate practice improves confidence and reinforces memory.
Learn Cantonese Through Phonetics - (A accelerated course in English & Mandarin)
Learning phonetics is the secret to learning any language well. You will see fast

tones and pronunciation of Cantonese. You will learn the methods of comprehension and
usage of daily vocabulary, strengthen memory skills, and confidence in speaking. You will

Mandarin Chinese 11 and 12 Exam Preparation
Introductory Mandarin Chinese 11 and 12 is a provincially prescribed curriculum designed for
students who may not have taken Mandarin Chinese 5 to 10. Successful completion of this course
should [provide students with a level of competence that will allow them to successfully participate
in Mandarin Chinese 11 and 12 courses. Introductory Mandarin Chinese 11 and 12 is a four credit
Grade 11 and 12 courses. However, to alleviate scheduling pressure on students during their final
two years, it can be offered at the Grade 10 level.
To provide students with an equivalent preparation for Mandarin Chinese 11 and 12 courses, this
courses incorporates material from the prescribed learning outcomes, suggested instructional strategies,
suggested assessment strategies, and recommended learning resources identified for grades 5 to 10.
A major aim of this course is to balance expectations regarding the emergent language skills of
students who are new to the study of Mandarin Chinese with consideration of their ages, life
experiences, and prior knowledge. In addition to the activities suggested for earlier grade levels,
taking into account the interests of senior secondary students.
